TYPE: In-Line, Face Mount Dynamometer

MODEL: DI3-5.7-FM

PRO: The lowest maintenance dynamometer from MBS.

CON: The limit of motors that may be tested is based on the limit of the brake.

 

Shown here is a DI-5.7-FM dynamometer. The model brake for this particular unit (but not limited to) is an MBZ-5.7 (air cooled). Since the unit is inline, there is no transmission. In the standard configuration, for best accuracy, the load cell measures the torque of the motor. In some cases, it may be better to have the load cell measure the torque of the brake due to the motor power source connections interfering with torque measurements.

TYPE: Face Mount Dynamometer

MODEL: DB5-8.7-FM

PRO: May test a wide range of motors.

CON: The measured torque accuracy of the motor is approximately 96%.

 

 

Shown here is a DB-8.7-FM dynamometer. The model brake for this particular unit (but not limited to) is an MBZ-8.7 (air cooled). Here, the load cell measures the torque of the brake as opposed to the torque of the motor under test. The motor mounting plate may be adjusted for different length shafts of the motor.

FIXED BASE DYNAMOMETERS

 

TYPE: Face Mount Dynamometer

MODEL: DB3-2.4-FM

PRO: Small footprint unit for testing small motors.

CON: DB3 model limited to brake models 2.4 and 3.75.

 

 

Shown here is a DB3-2.4-FM dynamometer. The model brake for this particular unit (but not limited to) is an MBZ-2.4 (air cooled). Here, the load cell measures the torque of the motor under test and provides measured torque accuracies of better than 1%. The brake slides back and forth to tension the timing belt. The pulleys may be interchanged and the system calibrated within five minutes.

FACE MOUNT DYNAMOMETERS

 

TYPE: Base Mount Dynamometer

MODEL: DB5-5.7-BM

PRO: Couple small motors to a dynamometer that only has feet for mounting. May remove base for face-mount style motors for added versatility.

CON: DB5 model does not accept brake models 2.4 and 3.75.

BASE MOUNT DYNAMOMETERS

 

TYPE: Carriage Mount Dynamometer

MODEL: DB-17.5-CB, DB-17.5T-CB

PRO: High torque, low effective inertia. May test a wide range of motors.

CON: Requires large shop floor area and heavy.

Shown here is a DB-17.5-CB dynamometer with a 3 phase 100 HP Marathon Motor. It is a model of the dynamometer for testing larger motors that typically require a forklift to move. The brake shown is an MBZ-17.5 (air cooled). The pulley ratio in the picture is 48 to 112. In this particular case, the torque of the brake is being measured. Though measuring the torque of the brake is not as accurate as measuring the torque of the motor, this configuration allows for a much broader range of motors to be tested. The transmission allows for the brake and load cell to operate at optimum levels, even though, the output from different types of motors varies.

The carriage mount model is not limited to mounting the brake in the carriage. It should be specified when ordering. The mounting is not limited to base mounted motors; with an adapter plate, face mounted motors may also be tested in the carriage.

CARRIAGE MOUNT DYNAMOMETERS

 

TYPE: Carriage Base Mount dynamometer

MODEL: DB-17.5W-CB, DB-17.5WT-CB

PRO: May continuously dissipate 100 HP.

CON: More complex than an air cooled dynamometer.

Shown here is a DB-17.5W-CB dynamometer with a 3 phase 100 HP Marathon Motor. The brake is a water cooled MBZ-17.5W. A single brake is capable of dissipating 100 HP continuously. A tandem brake system, DB-17.5WT-CB, is capable of dissipating 200 HP continuously. The pulley ratio is 112 to 180. In this particular set-up, the torque of the brake is being measured.

For this system an MBS drag ring temperature sensor is required; in the event of cooling failure, the power to the brake is immediately shut off to prevent the brake from crashing.

100+ HP DYNAMOMETERS

 

TYPE: Base Mount dynamometer

MODEL: DI5-8.7-BM

PRO: Quickly connect and capture performance data for AC frequency drives to a standard load.

 

Shown here is a DI-8.7-BM with a 3 phase 5 HP Baldor motor.

The AC Frequency drive dynamometer provides a load to the controller under test. The operator may record the speed, torque, output power and input voltage and current of each leg. This dynamometer may be used to verify proper controller operation after assembly or repair of a motor controller.

A motor is permanently mounted to apply the load to the controller. To connect a controller, there is a terminal strip for each phase (L1, L2, L3) and ground. The terminal strip is rated for 600 volts, and each terminal has a screw to clamp down on the wire.

3 PHASE AC FREQUENCY DRIVE DYNAMOMETERS

 

TYPE: Base mount dynamometer

MODEL: DB5-8.7-BM

PRO: Comes with a base plate that has ¼'' dowel pin holes and 20 ¼'' threaded holes on 1-inch centers.

Shown here is a DB5-8.7-BM for the primary purpose of testing hand drill motors/electronics.

The Hand Drill Dynamometers may be used to verify motor or MOSFET performances. The “Ready Signal” comes in very handy for these short tests; the dynamometer may be configured and armed so that the test starts when a signal is provided. The operator may record the speed, torque, output power, input voltage and current of each leg.  

A platform with ¼” dowel pin holes and ¼-20 tapped holes may be provided on 1” centers. Users may easily attach custom blocks to mount different size devices.

TYPE: Face Mount dynamometer

MODEL: DB5-8.7-FM

PRO: The dynamometer is positioned outside the test chamber allowing for a smaller test chamber.

Shown here is a DB5-8.7-FM for testing motors in an environmental test chamber. The motor, suspended inside the chamber is mounted to a tube and shaft coupled to the dynamometer. The customer specifies the test chamber, and MBS adapts the dynamometer to the chamber.

The Environmental Test Chamber Dynamometer has a dynamometer outside of a chamber to reduce the size of the test chamber. The customer may drop/ship the chamber to MBS. MBS will custom fit our dynamometer to the system and verify proper dynamometer operation.
